About this book
Aurangzeb Alamgir RA (1618–1707), formally known as Aurangzeb , was the sixth emperor of the Mughal Empire and one of the most influential rulers in South Asian history. He ruled from 1658 to 1707, during which the Mughal Empire reached its greatest territorial extent. Known for his personal piety, simple lifestyle, and commitment to Islamic law, Aurangzeb was well versed in Islamic sciences, memorized portions of the Qur'an, and was respected for his devotion to religious learning.
One of his greatest achievements was commissioning the compilation of Fatawa-e-Alamgiri (also known as Al-Fatawa al-Hindiyyah ), a monumental Hanafi legal encyclopedia prepared by a large team of scholars under his patronage. He also expanded the Mughal Empire to its largest size and supported the establishment of mosques, madrasas, and scholarly institutions throughout the empire. Although primarily known as a ruler rather than an author, a number of works, letters, and compilations are attributed to him or preserve his writings.
